Online Training - Make the Shift Now!

With so many things being cut, one of the first things going is training. I can help. As an instructor working through the Connecticut Long Distance Learning Center (CTDLC) I not only participate in online training, but I design and implement online training programs. Let me use my knowledge and experience to help you.

My Tools

I use a variety of tools that you don’t have to get involved with, but all of which are free so your investment is minimal.

Linux – As a base operating system, Linux provides an easy-to-use system on even a modest PC platform. Got an extra PC? I can use it to put training in your network. Want to put it on the web? You extra PC can work there as well. Don’t have a PC to use? I can provide hosting services for you on a suitable platform reachable through the Internet.

Apache – The premier web server is the standard against which all others are measured. I will set it up and run it for you to keep your training system running.

Joomla!/Drupal – These open source content management systems make it possible to bring up web sites simply and easily. I can setup and configure a web site in a fraction of the time you’re used to. If your training requirements are simple enough, I can do it within Joomla! With inside and outside pieces for people to look at. I can even setup online stores to allow for people to purchase materials or equipment needed for the course.

MySQL – the open source database system that rivals the best commercial systems. MySQL is used at the back end of many web sites around the world. All of the content I develop is stored in a database making it both simple to retrieve and use and easier to port to other platforms.

MediaWiki – If you’d rather make your information available in a wiki format, as with wikipedia, here’s how I’ll do it

Wordpress – Some people like to have a blog associated with their training. I’ve settled on the Wordpress software system which I can build so that you can update your blog while offline.

ZenCart – If you need a store, I’ll set it up with Zencart, a widely used software set that makes stores simply a matter of configuration

Moodle – A complete, sophisticated training system, built to run training and education online

Phpbb – The most used bulletin board system, often a useful adjunct to a training program that allows you to carry on threaded conversations easily.
